Trilipiderm Tips and FAQ's

TIP #1

Skin is our number one organ.

It is the first line of defense. Hydration is important 24/7 because keeping our skin healthy and properly hydrated affects our immune system.

TIP #2

Why moisturize after a shower?

When the weather gets warmer, people tend to take more showers, exposing skin to chemicals such as detergents, which remove lipids. Lipids are essential building blocks found in the skin's outermost layer. They form layers around and between skin cells, creating a barrier that keeps natural moisture intact and prevents it from escaping. Therefore, it’s important to use a good moisturizer after every shower.

TIP #3

How exactly are Trilipiderm® products "engineered by scientists"?

Trilipiderm® utilizes natural ingredients and science to create products that provide comprehensive hydration, water retention and replacement of essential lipids. The team behind Trilipiderm®, the TriLipid Research Institute, is comprised of chemists who truly understand the structure of skin. We do extensive research and clinical testing to formulate combinations of ingredients that work synergistically using only ingredients that mimic what’s found naturally in our skin.

TIP #4

What ingredient is responsible for binding all ingredients together into a smooth emulsion?

Making an emulsion with long-term stability is an art. It serves as a differentiator among personal care products. For instance, when you see a cream that has visible separation (such as water floating on top), it’s a telltale sign that the overall manufacturing isn’t good, from the formula to the production. At TriLipid Research Institute, we pride ourselves on the quality of our emulsions. There is no single ingredient that is responsible for “binding” an emulsion. It’s a combination of ingredients that are synergistically balanced and compatible to not only achieve a beautiful cream or lotion, but also to ensure the maintenance of the bio functionality of the active ingredients.

TIP #5

Feed your skin the way you feed your body.

Give it nutrients to keep skin cells healthy to ensure years of a radiant, youthful glow. Make sure that the “food” you give your skin is as free of toxins as possible.

TIP #6

Do you really need separate daytime and night crèmes?

There are two major differences between daytime and nighttime crèmes: Daytime moisturizers tend to be more lightweight than nighttime moisturizers AND many daytime moisturizers contain SPF in their formulas for UV protection, which isn't needed at night. Some nighttime formulas, like our Rehydration Night Crème, can be used during the day in addition to a sunscreen for an extra dose of hydration.

TIP #7

The sun: a double-edged sword.

The sun is necessary for our bodies to create vitamin D, but it is important to know how to protect yourself from the sun’s damaging rays while also replenishing moisture and lipids to your skin. Skin cancer, especially melanoma, is one of the most common and dangerous types of cancer. In addition to protective clothing (hats, sunglasses, etc.), use sunscreen every day for extra protection – even on cloudy days. With summer here (and hopefully that means more time outside) sunscreen should be on everyone’s shopping list.

TIP #8

What are some ingredients to look for in a nighttime-wear formula?

Antioxidant-rich vitamins like vitamins A, C, D and E are all wonderful nighttime formula components. Anti-aging ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid are also great, as they are able to do their jobs without interference from the sunscreen that’s typically found in daytime crèmes. Additionally, wearing antioxidants at night is also valuable to the skin because they help to continue fighting free radical scavenging which is exacerbated by being exposed to the sunlight. And don’t forget the lipids – select a product that incorporates oils which contribute essential fatty acids and are light to the touch and non-greasy.

TIP #9

Do makeup products with built-in sun protection factor (SPF) in their formulas work?

Foundations and other cosmetic products that claim to offer SPF are a trend at the moment. Be careful. These products are not “Broad Spectrum.” They only protect against UVB rays. To be sure you’re getting the best protection, you should use a Broad Spectrum SPF 30 under your makeup. Thus, you’ll absorb both UVA and UVB rays. Apply a hydrating crème like Trilipiderm Broad Spectrum SPF 30 with Vitamin D and then apply makeup.

TIP #10

Does a higher SPF number mean greater protection?

“The higher the SPF, the greater the protection” begs explanation. “SPF” means Sun Protection Factor and refers to the number to calculate the theoretical amount of time you can stay in the sun without getting sunburned. For example, if you put your arm totally without protection in direct sunlight and it gets sunburned in 10 minutes, an SPF 30 product means theoretically that you can place the same arm under the exact same conditions of direct sunlight (time of day, etc. ) and it would take 300 minutes to get sunburned (30 x 10 minutes). The same formula would apply in the case of an SPF 15 or SPF 50. But, that’s not the full story. The sun emits both UVA and UVB rays. It’s the UVB rays that cause sunburn. But, the real bad guys are the UVA rays – these cause skin melanoma. So, you want a product that protects against both forms of UV radiation. A sun product that has the official designation “broad spectrum” protects against both the UVA and UVB rays of the sun. A Broad Spectrum SPF 30 protects against 97-98% of UV rays that hit the skin. A Broad Spectrum SPF 50 picks up about 1-2% more. When choosing a good sunscreen, look for two key things: make sure it is “broad spectrum” and that it has an SPF of at least 30. SPF 15 only protects against UVB rays; a broad spectrum with an SPF 30 is a wonderful protector for everyday use, especially if it also hydrates the skin. And, why not add back some Vitamin D? If we’re blocking the sun, we’re inhibiting Mother Nature’s way of producing Vitamin D in our skin. Hence, try to give some back.

TIP #11

How are body oils effective for all skin types?

A great, natural body oil that is rich in anti-oxidants can be very beneficial to all skin types. Skin benefits from the lipids and essential fatty acids in the oils, which help preserve skin’s youthful appearance and healthiness. In addition, carefully selected oils that are light and absorbent will help to rehydrate the skin by controlling TEWL (trans epidermal water loss). Avoid “heavy oils” which tend to be occlusive. “ReOiling” your skin should be part of your skin care regimen, whether your skin is normal or dry.

TIP #12

When is the best time to moisturize with a body oil?

To best seal the skin with hydration, apply body oil while the skin is still damp after a shower or bath. A light body oil is great to use on the entire body; not only will it absorb quickly, but it will leave skin feeing soft without feeling sticky or greasy.

TIP #13

Why is my skin as dry in the summer as it is in the winter?

Like the indoor heat that dries out your skin in the wintertime, being in an air-conditioned room for hours can equally dry out our skin in the warmer seasons. Moisturizing with a rich, light body oil helps to repair, relieve and replenish skin damage associated with common issues such as dryness and itchiness.

Trilipiderm® Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve tried dozens of moisturizers over the years.  How is trilipiderm® different?

Only trilipiderm® contains this specific combination of active ingredients. It is the result of years of research into the causes of dry skin and has been scientifically engineered to re-establish the skin's natural barrier to moisture loss. trilipiderm® is totally non-comedogenic, i.e. it does not block pores and therefore allows the skin to breath. While trilipiderm® is quickly re-moisturizing the epidermal layer of your skin, it is also providing anti-oxidant and anti-irritant benefits to protect the skin as it overcomes the problems associated with dryness.

Is dry skin a permanent condition?

No. The major cause of dry skin is the disruption and/or breakdown of the natural barrier to moisture loss. That barrier, made up primarily of special lipids, can be rebuilt. The TriLipid Research Institute, LLC has extensively studied this problem and designed trilipiderm® to correct the dermatological problems associated with dry skin and rebuild the skin's natural moisture barrier.

Is trilipiderm® appropriate for sensitive skin?

How soon should I see results?

That depends upon the nature of your skin. Some people see significant improvement after only a few applications, while others (extremely dry skin, more senior individuals, etc.) need somewhat longer to get noticeable results.

What are the stages of dry skin?

Dry skin does not present itself in "stages". Some individuals experience dry skin in certain body area such as elbows, knees, feet, etc. while others feel a dryness all over their body. Dry skin can present itself as a mild condition or very severe. In the latter case, it may be followed by clinical conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.

What is the difference between a Moisture Retention Crème and the moisturizers, lotions and dry skin creams I’ve been using?

A “moisture retention cream” is designed and engineered to rebuild the skin’s natural boundary to moisture loss. Technically, the physiological activity of concern is TEWL, Trans-Epidermal Water Loss, which means the loss of water from the surface of the skin. Excessive water loss is undesirable and leads to dry skin and associated dry skin conditions. trilipiderm® helps rebuild the barrier so the skin can retain essential moisture in epidermal tissue. It “heals” the skin.

Can I use a sunscreen with trilipiderm®?

Yes, trilipiderm® is compatible with sunscreens and sunblocks. In fact, the use of trilipiderm® will help the skin retain moisture and thereby prevent dryness due to overexposure to the sun.

No. In fact, several women have reported using trilipiderm® under their makeup and found that the color lay-down was even and lustrous and it proved to be easier to remove their makeup at end of the day. Since trilipiderm® is pure white, it will not interfere with color presentation of your favorite decorative cosmetics.
